Join us as Alan Sears presents McClungs Magazine with a special
‘White Ribbon Champion’ award for 20 years of working toward change!

We are excited to have Ryerson’s Alan Sears deliver a talk and present McClung’s Magazine with a special acknowledgement on reaching their 20th anniversary. McClung’s is a feminist magazine based out of Ryerson University in Toronto, Canada that publishes twice a year (in January and in April) and is largely student-produced. McClungs started as a photocopied magazine 19 years ago. Along the way the magazine has won a Canadian Association of Journalists award. “We reflect our readers–who are interested in eclectic, wild, weird and wonderful pop culture, politics, news and social issues from Toronto and around the world. We give our readers stories about people they can’t find anywhere else.”

We humbly say thank you to the McClungs Magazine family with a special ‘White Ribbon Champion’ award for working towards making Ryerson a more gender-equitable space to work, live and study.

Delivering a talk and presenting the award will be Ryerson University’s Alan Sears. Alan teaches Sociology at Ryerson University and is a long-time activist in queer and radical movements. He has written about queer movements, AIDS/HIV, the education system, work and radical renewal.

It is disproportionately young men who carry out this brutalization, so full liberation means challenging the particular kinds of masculinity that promote violence against both women and those perceived as “queers” says Alan in his article ’30 Years On: The Toronto Bathhouse Raids and Sexual and Gender Liberation’  in the New Socialist Webzine
